Understanding the Rapture, the Antichrist, and End-Times Prophecy
When studying biblical prophecy, particularly the teachings of the Apostle Paul, few topics generate as much discussion—and confusion—as the timing of the Rapture (harpazo) and the reign of the Antichrist.
What Does the Bible Say About the Timing?
The primary source of debate centers on when believers will be gathered relative to the period of global trial and the reign of the Antichrist. The Scriptures explicitly state in Matthew 24:36 that no human knows the exact day or hour. Because of this, Christian theology features several main perspectives:
Pre-Tribulation View: Proposes that Jesus gathers believers into the air before the seven-year Tribulation period and prior to the Antichrist taking full global power, sparing the Church from God's wrath (1 Thessalonians 5:9).
Mid-Tribulation / Pre-Wrath View: Suggests that believers endure the first 3.5 years of trials under the Antichrist before being caught up right as God’s final judgments commence (referencing Revelation 11 and Daniel 9).
Post-Tribulation View: Holds that the Rapture and the visible Second Coming occur together at the very end of the Tribulation. Believers endure the period of trial, and meet Christ in the air to immediately accompany Him back to Earth following the defeat of the Antichrist.
Historic & Symbolic View: Prominent in historic Orthodox, Catholic, and traditional Protestant theology, this view interprets Paul's description in 1 Thessalonians 4 not as a two-stage "secret" event, but as figurative imagery describing the single, final resurrection and return of Christ at the end of time.
Why Is There So Much Misinformation?
The Greek word used by Paul in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 is harpazo (ἁρπάζω), which translates to "caught up" or "snatched away" (translated into Latin as rapturus). Because biblical prophecy mixes historical narrative, epistolary guidance, and apocalyptic symbolism, different theological schools connect passages across Daniel, Matthew, 2 Thessalonians, and Revelation in distinct ways.
Regardless of the timeline one adheres to, the foundational message of biblical eschatology remains focused on faith, readiness, and trust in divine sovereignty rather than calculating dates.

Η Αρπαγή των Πιστών, ο Αντίχριστος και τα Έσχατα: Τι Ισχύει Πραγματικά;
Πότε θα Συμβούν Αυτά τα Γεγονότα;
