Hypnosis and Demonic Deception – An Orthodox Warning
In our times, hypnosis is often presented as a tool for therapy, entertainment, or even self-improvement. Yet, behind this “neutral” or “scientific” mask lies a great danger: demonic intervention.
The Orthodox Tradition teaches us that the human mind is the most delicate and sacred part of our being. It is the “eye of the soul.” When a person, through artificial means, deliberately places the mind in a state of passivity, he ceases to have discernment and vigilance. It is precisely in this weakness that demons intrude.
They do not always appear in an obvious, dark form; more often, they disguise themselves as “light,” as supposed revelation, as something that satisfies our desires. They can present images, create sensations, and whisper lies that seem like truth. The Apostle Paul warns us: “For Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).
The image before us is a visual reminder: man under hypnosis, defenseless, becomes the target of whispers and deception. Only the Light of the Cross can disperse this darkness.
The Church calls us to live in watchfulness, prayer, and repentance. There is no “neutral ground” in the spiritual struggle: either our mind is turned toward Christ, or it becomes vulnerable to demonic delusion.
Wake up, people! Do not hand over your mind to hypnosis and to methods that open the door to deception. True healing and true peace can be found only in Christ and His Holy Church.
